Raising the stakes (constructive vs destructive)

R

Raising the stakes forward is building up to create necessity
Raising the stakes backwards is stripping down to create necessity

Without necessity there is very little hope that the required motivation will manifest

This is the difference between want and need

Want is a incredibly weak force

It’s akin to preference

Preference is you’d prefer a burger over pasta

It’s a very weak force – you won’t do anything drastic if a preference isn’t met

Necessity on the other hand is one of the most powerful forces you can leverage and put into play

Raising the stakes backwards is stripping down

Prime example is letting your finances run low, creating a need for you to step on the gas because you backed yourself into a corner

The problem with raising the stakes backwards is you remain stuck in the same position, oscillating back and forth like a yo-yo

Run out of money, step on gas to make some money, run out of money, step on gas to make some money

It is like putting 50,000 miles on your car, putting wear on your engine, yet remaining in the exact same spot

A month or two driving north
A month or two backpedaling south

Raising the stakes forward is creating necessity through forward commitments

Say you take on 2 new clients
Now there is a real-world necessity to show up and perform

Your reputation is on the line, money is on line

There are active rewards & consequences in play

Or say you have a friend who is great with Instagram and you pay him $5k to get you popping on Instagram

That’s an example of raising the stakes forward – making a commitment which advances you to add necessity

Or say your bring on a employee, now you are on the hook for providing them work and their income

If you are not consciously raising the stakes forward you will unconsciously raise them backwards

With great power comes great responsibility

But the inverse is also true

With great responsibility comes great power

The motivation, energy, and cognition required will manifest when there is the catalyst in play of necessity – thus unlocking your power

This is the supply & demand law of reality

You don’t produce surplus oxygen and blood flow because you want to

It’s only after you start running and moving there is a NEED to produce and supply your demand

In the same way, the required cognition, answers, energy, and motivation will not be produced simply because you want it to

There must be a need, a demand for supply
A real world, live catalyst which requires these things to be summoned

Without necessity there is very little hope that the required motivation will manifest
